WellFirst Health – Provided by SSM Health Plan – will launch Medicare Advantage plans in the St. Louis area effective Jan. 1, 2021, offering seniors access to high-quality, affordable health care through a comprehensive network of physicians, hospitals, outpatient and virtual care services featuring SSM Health System.

WellFirst Health’s Medicare Advantage plans will be available for selection during Medicare’s Annual Enrollment Period: Oct. 15 through Dec. 7, 2020. Medicare-eligible residents in St. Louis City, St. Louis County and St. Charles County in Missouri as well as St. Clair and Madison counties in Illinois can enroll in the plans.

“SSM Health is known for delivering exceptional patient-centered care,” said Alexander Garza, M.D., Chief Community Health Officer for SSM Health. “WellFirst Health Medicare Advantage plans combine that care with a member-focused, community-based health plan, reflecting our mission and commitment to our communities. In these uncertain times, as we face the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, our pledge to the communities we serve is especially critical.”

WellFirst Health members will benefit from convenient, coordinated access to a health care network featuring SSM Health and other trusted providers, delivering a better member and patient experience.

“We are excited to offer Medicare Advantage plans in the St. Louis area and serve new members,” said Les McPhearson, President of SSM Health Plan – which provides WellFirst Health products. “We’re committed to fulfilling our mission of delivering excellence in health care and providing the community with access to high-quality health care services that are affordable and sustainable.”

WellFirst Health Medicare Advantage plans will address several pressing concerns many community members have about care and coverage. Plans will keep costs down for medical and dental services to help members keep money in their pockets, as well as reduce pharmacy costs and prescription drug costs for chronic conditions.

WellFirst Health Medicare Advantage plans will also help plan members address the related challenges of COVID-19 and social isolation. Through dedicated companionship and transportation options, as well as support with technology and connectivity, members will have convenient access to care with their providers in-person or remotely.

“As a provider-owned health plan, we make WellFirst Health members’ well-being our top priority,” said Brandon Sonne, Vice President & MO/IL Market Leader for the health plan. “We’re a local St. Louis option committed to the health of people in the St. Louis area.”
